Two die in wrecks
Two fatality crashes occurred over
the Fourth of July weekend in nearby counties.
Oliver Mark Simpson III, Vinita, 30, died Saturday after losing control of his 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle one mile north of Big Cabin. The wreck occurred County Road 300, a mile and a half west of U.S. Highway 69 at 5:33 p.m.
OHP Trooper Buddy Lambert reported the motorcycle was eastbound at a high rate of speed when Simpson lost control. The bike ran off the south edge of the road and struck a barbed wire pipe fence.
Simpson, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected approximately 189 feet from the point of impact. He died at the scene from massive head and trunk injuries.
Lambert reported the cause of the collision as unsafe speed.
A 77-year-old woman died in a single-car crash in Adair County. Juanita Roland, Stilwell, was pronounced dead at the scene Friday.
Troopers say Roland was a passenger in the vehicle that wrecked one mile west of Stilwell. The crash occurred at 7:05 p.m. on Highway 100.
The vehicle was traveling east at a high rate of speed and veered out of control in a curve. The vehicle left the road and overturned two and a half times before striking two utility poles. The vehicle came to rest on its top.
Roland was wearing a seat belt but was partially ejected.
