Detective finds pot plant

Sommer Woodward

A Pryor detective found more than he expected while serving a search warrant for animal cruelty at the Gardens Apartments Tuesday night.

While Detective Doug Barham searched for a dog, he found a 3-foot tall marijuana plant growing in the apartment of Samantha Lee Burrus and Shannon Rose Vanandel. Barham also found marijuana, baggies, scales and products for cultivation.

Burrus, 24, and Vanandel, 33, were arrested for cultivation and possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

They were booked in the Mayes County jail and charged Wednesday with cultivation of a controlled substance, possession of controlled substance (marijuana), and

possession of drug paraphernalia.

The dog, which neighbors had complained wasn’t being taken care of, was turned over to animal control.

Burrus bonded out on a $20,000 bond Thursday. Vanandel also posted a $20,000 bond Thursday, which was her 33rd birthday.
