No salary increase for Municipal Utility Board staff

Pryor Municipal Utility Board will not be increasing any salaries in the 2009-2010 fiscal year.

General Manager Gary Pruett said the new

budget is $11.6 million for all departments. MUB operated on a budget of $12.2 million last year.

“Nobody’s getting a raise,” said Pruett.

He said the reduction in the budget reflects the decrease in natural gas prices.

The board approved the new budget in the June 15 meeting.

The board approved a Power Cost Adjustment from Grand River Dam Authority. Pruett said GRDA adjusted the fuel cost above the base rate. The PCA is recalculated every six months.

Pruett said the rate from January through June was .00626 cents per kilowatt hour. The rate is now .00645 cents.

“They pass the cost on to us and we pass the cost on to the customer,” Pruett said.

The adjustment is 6.45 mils for the last six months of 2009. Ten mils make one penny.

The board approved spending $3,916.83 toward an upgrade for the fiber-optic system. MUB is paying one-third of the cost of a multi-service mobility controller Aruba 3600 from DTS Communications, Inc. Pruett said the school system, by agreement, pays two-thirds of the cost for the network for the city and schools.

MUB will buy a new bucket truck from Altec Industries for $171,490. The bucket truck will replace MUB’s 1988 International. Pruett said Altec will provide the most current model available. The estimated delivery is 240 to 270 days.

The board approved changing the policy to allow the general manager to spend a limit of $2,000 to $10,000. Pruett said years ago the board set the limit to $2,000, but since that time equipment and supply costs have escalated.

The policy change will allow Pruett to make necessary purchases up to $10,000 without prior board approval.
