County bridge bids awarded

Oklahoma Department of Transportation awarded a construction bid for two Mayes County bridges.

Beachner Construction out of St. Paul, Kan., will build new bridges over Elm Creek in District 1 and Brushy Creek in District 2.

The two projects were put together on one bid package. Beachner’s total bid came to $616,116.35, the lowest of five submitted bids.

Other construction firms submitting bids were:

Williams Construction: $950,178.56

Cimarron Construction: $789,771.55

Kraus Construction: $698,542.10

Belk Bridge, Inc.: $692,399.54

ODOT awarded the joint bid to Beachner last Thursday.

“ODOT was very pleased,” District 2 Commissioner Darrell Yoder said Monday.

In addition to the bid price, $35,000 will come from county bridge and road improvement (CBRI) funds for inspections on the two bridges.

The Brushy Creek project will be federally funded by the national stimulus package. The cost to replace the bridge was estimated at $334,000.

Yoder said the bids on Brushy Creek came in under the estimation. The total cost for the project is figured at $318,171.28.

The Brushy Creek bridge is two miles south of old Highway 33 on County Road 428.

The Elm Creek bridge will cost $334,486.06, which is $700 to $800 higher than the projected price.

District 1 Commissioner Alva Martin said Elm Creek bridge will be built on CBRI funds from the state. The Elm Creek structure is located on 443 Road, three-eighths of a mile north of Highway 28 near Pensacola.

Martin said Beachner has 30 to 90 days to begin construction on the bridges. The construction process is scheduled for 180 days.

Brushy Creek bridge was one of two Mayes County bridges accepted for the stimulus. The larger project is Chouteau Creek Bridge on old Highway 33, east of Chouteau.

Yoder expects construction to begin on Chouteau Creek Bridge in July.
