Mayes County Commissioners approved a payment for a hydraulics study on South Elliott Street in last Monday’s meeting.
District 2 Commissioner Darrell Yoder said the hydraulics study is complete, but he said the flood plain board must approve the study.
The hydraulics study includes a professional review of flow charts to determine the water levels on a road for a 25-year flood. Through the study, the engineering company can determine what the elevation of the road should be.
The commissioners approved a payment of approximately $8,500 to Wingfield Engineering. Yoder said the funds will come from the county bridge and road improvement account and Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) will reimburse the money later.
Brad Burch of Wingfield Engineering said the resolution cannot be submitted to ODOT without the five-year plan. Burch said the five-year plan must be sent with the resolution in order for District 2 to get reimbursed.
Yoder said the acquisition of right-of-ways on South Elliott Street is underway. Approximately three-fourths of the property owners have sold their right-of-ways, and Yoder expects two more to sign as soon as the hydraulics study is approved.
ODOT is reimbursing District 1 $34,044.34 for debris removal. The reimbursement is for cleanup on District 1’s major collector roads after the December 2007 ice storm. The Federal Emergency Management Agency will not fund disaster assistance on major
collector roads.
Commissioners appropriated temporary funds for the county and health department. County Clerk Rita Littlefield said the money will be used to start the new 2009-2010 fiscal year until the budget is approved. Commissioners approved $4 million for the county and $400,000 for the health
department.
Commissioners approved road maintenance agreements with Gages, Maple Rest, Strang, Sportsmen Acres, Langley, Salina and Disney.
In other issues, commissioners:
• opened three-month, six-month and yearly bids
• approved a financial statement for the resale property fund for the county treasurer
• approved using local banks for depository funds and investments
• renewed lease purchase agreements for another year
• approved overtime for the election board
• approved increasing retirement by 1 percent, making the county’s portion 15.5 percent.
