The Boys & Girls Clubs of Green Country returned from the Boys & Girls Club of America Oklahoma Area Council Meeting with two Program Honor Awards and the Oklahoma State Volunteer of the Year Award presented to Boys & Girls Clubs of Green Country Board member Nash Lamb.
In the area of education and career development, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Green Country brought home an award for their program, Immersion Presents. Immersion Presents was developed in 2002 by Dr. Robert Ballard. This program brings ocean adventures and discoveries from Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration. Immersion Presents helps club members understand the positive roles that science and technology play in their everyday lives. The program exposes students to ongoing scientific expeditions in an effort to ignite their interest in real discovery and learning. Every year two members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Green Country are rewarded for their participation in the program by joining other kids from across the nation at Camp Hercules in Mystic, Conn. During this camp they have the opportunity to meet and work with Dr. Ballard.
In the area of health and life skills, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Green Country brought home an award for their program Together Raising Awareness for Indian Life (TRAIL). TRAIL is a diabetes prevention program. The program teaches the importance of daily exercise and eating healthy. The curriculum contains lessons from how to read nutrition labels to safely preparing your own healthy snacks. There is even an option for a scavenger hunt in a grocery store to pick out healthy items. The program invites the entire family to participate in order to create a generational impact.
These two program areas are just a small part of all the Boys & Girls Clubs of Green Country has to offer. Program areas not include education, career development, health and life skills, character and leadership development, arts, sports, fitness and recreation.
