School bonds pass in Mayes County

The school bond proposal for improvements to Pryor Schools passed by nearly 75 percent Tuesday.

Pryor voters approved the first proposal of $13.3 million by 74.9 percent. This proposal will allow Pryor Schools to begin construction on new elementary school buildings and improvement of other school sites.

The second Pryor proposal will cover $525,000 for buying transportation equipment. It passed by 74 percent.

The Osage School bond proposals passed by 62.5 percent and 65 percent.

Osage’s first proposal was a $430,000 bond for repairing and remodeling the school buildings and improving the school sites.

The second bond proposal for Osage provided $225,000 for transportation.

Leonard Barnes will be the new Ward 2 councilman for the City of Pryor. Barnes won by 55 percent over former councilman Greg Rosamond, who recently resigned his position due to personal reasons. Ward 2 voters gave Rosamond 45 percent of the vote.

Out of 10,658 registered voters in the Pryor and Osage precincts, 1,324 cast ballots in Tuesday’s election.
