A short foot pursuit resulted in the arrest of Byron Michael Jacobsen, 22, Salina, early Sunday morning in Locust Grove. Locust Grove Police Officer Terry Springwater pulled over a vehicle at Kum & Go on Highway 82 after dispatch received two calls from concerned citizens and Oklahoma Highway Patrol dispatch in Vinita sent a teletype of a possible drunk driver.
Officer Springwater said he spotted the vehicle and pulled over the driver. When checking the driver’s license, Springwater found out Jacobsen had felony warrants in Rogers County and a warrant for his arrest in Mayes County. When the officer attempted to arrest the man, Jacobsen took off on foot.
Springwater said Jacobsen ran through a nearby business parking lot before heading down Ewing Street on the north side of Best Western. That’s when Springwater said he lost site of Jacobsen. Office Nate Cooper and the K-9 officer were on their way to assist when Cooper spotted Jacobsen.
“As Nate came down Ewing, the driver ran in front of him,” said Springwater.
Jacobsen ran into a field and Cooper threatened to release the K-9 officer. Jacobsen stopped running at that time. Cooper held him at gunpoint until Springwater could get there to make the arrest.
During the search of Jacobsen’s
vehicle, Springwater said the officers found approximately six ounces of
marijuana. Jacobsen was arrested for driving under suspension, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
