New waste water plant on line

Sommer Woodward

The new Salina waste water treatment plant is nearing completion.

During the monthly Public Works Authority (PWA)

board meeting, Utility Superintendent Randall Coon reported the plant is started up and nearly 90 percent complete.

A payment of $460,300.13 was approved for two

payment applications. Engineering fees of $17,750 were approved for work on the waste water treatment plant.

In other business:

• The board approved a $9,750 payment in engineering fees for work on the water treatment plant.

• The board discussed the trash contract with Green Country Refuse. The

company agreed to exclude mandatory roll off containers except for the town’s use. Mayor Darrell Blaylock expressed interest in getting the trash containers similar to what Locust Grove received. The contract will be discussed again in the May meeting.

• The board approved a settlement of $1,411.78 after the $500 deductible for

damage to a 2008 PWA truck.

• Roger Simmons addressed the board and asked them to consider purchasing a $400,000 filtration system for the water plant, which he thinks would correct the byproduct violations. The board will pass the information along to the engineers working on the water plant project.
