Commissioners talk bridges

Julie Yates

Mayes County Commissioners heard information and updates concerning Circuit Engineering District funds.

John Blickensderfer, project manager for Guy Engineering, told commissioners that Districts 1 and 2 have $50,000 available in the materials request program through CED. Blickensderfer said CED will fund up to $50,000 to help pay for materials for designated projects.

Projects qualifying for the funding must be work performed by the county. The funds can be used for projects such as road overlays, gravel or bridges with a load of 20 tons or greater.

District 1 Commissioner Alva Martin hopes to use his funding for replacing Bitter Creek Bridge on North 432 Road.

District 2 Commissioner Darrell Yoder said he plans to use his $50,000 for the overlay of 9th Street in Pryor.

District 3 Commissioner Melvin Pritchett used his funds for building a box culvert over Little Saline Creek east of Salina.

Upcoming bridge replacements in Mayes County include the Chouteau Creek, Elm Creek, Brushy Creek, Snake Creek and Salt Creek Branch bridges.

The county is going out for bids this week on the Chouteau Creek bridge on old Highway 33 east of Chouteau. Plans are for bids to be let in June on the Elm and Brushy Creek bridges. The Elm Creek project is in District 1, while Brushy Creek is in District 2.

Snake Creek in District 3 and Salt Creek Branch in District 1 are prioritized projects with CED.

Blickensderfer said the Salt Branch plans should be ready by June. The Snake Creek project, located south of Locust Grove, may be ready later this year.

Yoder organized a county surplus auction, held last Saturday.

Yoder said all the surplus equipment was compiled in separate lots. Equipment sold included rollers, packers, chip spreaders, weedeaters and some vehicles.

District 2 sold 107 lots and made a profit of $35,614.48. Districts 1 and 3 sold three lots each. District 1 made $1,882.50 and District 3 made $8,565.

The Commissioners approved an agreement for The Gathering to
