MIAMI (AP) - Authorities say alcohol may have played a role in a fatal accident on U.S. 69 near Miami.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said 20-year-old James Daniel Rutherford of Langley died at the scene of the accident about 11:20 p.m. Saturday.
Troopers say Rutherford was driving his car south on the highway, which was wet. The vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
According to the report, an odor of alcohol was detected and unsafe speed also was a factor.
Rutherford was pinned in the wreckage for about 90 minutes before Afton firefighters freed him.
Troopers say Rutherford was
wearing a seat belt.
