Pryor offers summer driver's ed


Summer Driver Education at Pryor High School is June 1-10, from 8 a.m. to noon. The dates are subject to change if any more regularly scheduled classroom days are missed. The course will give students their 30 hours of classroom instruction required to complete the course. The driving part of the course requires six hours behind the wheel, which begins June 2 and will continue until completion. The student must be 15-years-old by July 31 in order to enroll. The student is required to attend all of the classroom days unless other arrangements are made through the administration. Each student’s individual instructor will set up the student’s driving schedule.

Driving instructors are Joe Faircloth, Laura Hollaway, Ron Peters, Sherry Calliso and Danny Callison. The classroom phase will be handled by all instructors. Students are given instruction on the Oklahoma Driver’s Manual to help prepare them for the written portion of the driving examiniation. The class will feature guest speakers from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a local insurance agent, local automobile dealer, Pryor Police Department and Pryor Fire Department and railroad.

Student cost is $125, and a $25 deposit is required at enrollment. The remainder is due the first day of class. Students may sign up at the Pryor High School or Pryor Junior High School offices during normal school days. One the first day of class students will need paper, pencil/pen and a list of days they need to be gone for vacation, any summer camps or any other event which may conflict with the driving schedule. Instructors will make every effort to work with parents and students so they may complete the course.
