The Chouteau school board met Monday to approve automating all libraries in the district and giving course credit for computer applications.
The high school library was the only library working from an automated catalog system. Both Mazie and Chouteau Elementary were working from an old card catalog system.
The board approved purchasing software from Follett for both Mazie and Chouteau Elementary and updating the high school software license. The cost is $8,311.20.
The board approved giving class credit for students who are involved in a Computer Applications course. The credits will be listed for Computer Applications I and II.
Superintendent Dr. Lisa Horn said the school receives a $24,000 yearly grant to teach students a specific computer program. Students must qualify for the program and now will earn elective credit for participating. Horn said the school has eight or nine students enrolled in the classes.
The board accepted an anonymous donation of $300 to replace an FFA show pig. Horn said one of the student’s show pigs died when a heater was knocked over from the wind. The heater caught the nearby hay on fire which killed the pig.
In other business:
• The board approved a standard principal evaluation form.
• The board approved starting negotiations with the Chouteau Mazie Education Association on April 8.
• After an executive session where the board discussed personnel issues, they voted to authorize the district attorney to take action consistent with what the board discussed in executive session. The matter discussed was a personnel issue arising from a claim by Brenda Caldwell.
• The board approved Horn’s evaluation and renewed her contract of employment for three years. The salary will be discussed at a later board meeting.
• A temporary teacher contract was approved for Adrian Rigell for the remainder of the school year. Horn said the school had a teacher working under an emergency certification from the state who didn’t pass the test required. Rigell, who has the proper certification, was hired to teach Spanish I and Spanish II.
• The board approved the resignation of
computer lab assistant Karla Hash, effective Dec. 31, 2008.
• The board approved the resignation of Reggie Kessler, maintenance employee. The resignation was effective Jan. 9.
• The board approved transferring Graciela Brumley from High School Spanish teacher to full-time computer lab teacher assistant or Reading First Teacher Assistant for Mazie. Horn said Brumley has a choice which position she’d like. The remaining position will be filled later after reviewing applicants.
