Sanders Mitchell, MidAmerica Industrial Park Administrator, confirmed Monday morning that Labinal is closed.
“We we notified about 8 a.m. that was the case,” Mitchell said. “It’s supposed to be permanent. It’s our understanding they’ll phase the plant out in the next four months and some of that production will go to Texas and then to Mexico.
“The history is that plants come and go. We’ll get another one in there. Maybe we’ll get one even better. That’s a big building and people are always looking for a big building.”
The Labinal Aero Defense Systems plant at MAIP employed over 480 people according to Mitchell.
