Salina does school board shuffle

Swearing in one new school board member and accepting the resignation of another were just two of the items on the Salina School Board agenda this month.

The school board appointed Daryl Bales to replace Randy Pritchett who resigned at the June meeting. Bales was sworn in before conducting any school business.

Later in the meeting, the resignation of David Edwards was accepted. The board then appointed Greg Rice as his replacement. Rice will be sworn in at the August

meeting.

Salina School Superintendent Vol Woods said in his time at Salina he has seen several school board members come and go. He said it is not uncommon for a board member to leave before his term is up. Bales and Rice will join Shannon Horton, Carey Backward and Lonnie Salyers on the board. Woods said Horton recently ran unopposed for his seat while Backward has about a year remaining on his term. Salyers has been on the board the longest at five years.

The board also took care of a few more personnel issues. The board hired Vincent Biondi as the new band director. He replaces Jennifer Rose whose letter of resignation was accepted at the meeting. Rose left to find employment closer to her home.

Two part-time teachers were also hired. Samantha Parker will be an English teacher and Honesty Williams was hired as a middle school teacher.
