Adair man charged with rape, sodomy

A 47-year-old Adair man is being held in the Mayes County jail on complaints of rape and sodomy of a 15-year-old girl.

Robert Eugene Hunt, Adair, was charged with first-degree rape and forcible sodomy Wednesday.

Investigator Albert McKee, Mayes County Sheriff’s Office, said the sheriff’s office learned of the incident after the girl notified the Chouteau Police Department at 7:14 p.m., Tuesday.

McKee said the girl thought she was going to baby-sit for Hunt and was picked up in Chouteau at noon.

Hunt took the girl to a trailer in rural Adair and sexually assaulted her for five hours.

The girl was able to get away, but the details of the escape were not yet available.

She was able to get a ride to Chouteau and reported the attack at the Chouteau Police Department.

Chouteau contacted the Mayes County Sheriff’s Office to begin the investigation.

Investigators went to the trailer to arrest Hunt, but were held off for approximately 30 minutes because Hunt was holding a gun inside the trailer.

After a short standoff, a taser was used and authorities were able to take Hunt into custody.

Hunt was booked in the Mayes County jail at 2:39 a.m., Wednesday. He is being held on a $250,000 bond.

A search warrant was executed at the trailer after Hunt was arrested, but details of the search have not been released.
