A Salina man is expected to be charged with lewd molestation for taking and possessing inappropriate pictures of a 9-year-old girl in rural Salina.
Mayes County Sheriff Frank Cantey said the sheriff’s office received a call from McIntosh County, where Robert Alvin Uptain, Salina, is being held on three charges of lewd molestation or injury to a minor child.
While serving a search warrant, McIntosh County investigators discovered several photos of a 9-year-old girl on a computer in Uptain’s possession. The pictures showed the girl in several inappropriate sexual poses.
After an investigation, officers discovered the photos had been taken in rural Salina and contacted the Mayes County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators went to interview Uptain in McIntosh County and obtained a full video-taped confession. According to investigators, Uptain admitted to taking pictures of the girl. Uptain also admitted to performing lewd acts on the girl.
Uptain is still being held in the McIntosh County jail. His next court date is Aug. 15, 9 a.m.
Uptain was already facing a felony charge of injury to a minor child in Mayes County from May 2006. He was scheduled for the jury sounding docket, June 25, but failed to appear. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest and his bond was forfeited.
Investigators have been in contact with the Mayes County District Attorney’s office and expect charges of lewd molestation to be filed in Mayes County. A hold will be placed on Uptain to be transported to Mayes County if released from the McIntosh County Jail.
