John Kenneth Sutton, 49, Pryor, was found guilty of child sexual abuse Monday by a jury of six women and six men.
The trial began Thursday, Feb. 8, with testimony from the 17-year-old victim, now 19.
The charges stem from incidents between August 2004 and May 2005, when Sutton brushed the side of the girl’s breast while rubbing her back and on a couple of occasions penetrated the girl with his finger.
The girl testified she admitted to what happened to a boyfriend, church leader, then a counselor, who contacted Rogers County Department of Human Services (DHS).
Investigator Eddie Griffin, with the District Attorney’s office, researched the allegations and interviewed Sutton.
During the interview, Sutton mentioned forms of contact with the girl which concerned Griffin, who had Sutton write a statement.
Sutton was arrested and charged with child sexual abuse and was suspended as a volunteer firefighter with the Pryor Fire Department shortly after.
The jury deliberated for four hours and came back with a guilty verdict. The jury recommended a sentence of six months in the county jail and a $3,000 fine plus court costs.
Sutton will be formally sentenced at a later date.
