Legion sponsors Girls State reps

The American Legion Auxiliary of Pryor selected delegates to attend Girls State May 27 to June 2 at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.

Girls attending this year are Shelby White from Adair High School, Abbye Jones, Makenzi Coleman both of Pryor High School, and Sherican Clark from Ketchum High School.

The program selects girls that are in their junior year of high school. Delegates are selected for high moral character, leadership and interest in government. The girls have the opportunity to earn college credit while at Girls State. There are 416 citizens who attend. Girls State is a nation-wide American Legion Auxiliary program, focusing on a promotion of Americanism and good citizenship. Oklahoma Girls State was first held in 1940 and except for the two years during World War II, has been held annually.

The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors each student who attends from the area.
