The construction on Elliott Street to widen the road and divert flood waters will soon be underway.
According to Commissioner Darryl Yoder, “Bids have been let and accepted.” The bid was awarded to Beco Construction of Tulsa. Yoder said he is waiting to have the pre-construction meeting with Oklahoma Department of Transportation officials before the work begins.
“The construction work is state funded,” Yoder said. “We (the county) have already gotten the right-of-ways and utilities along with the fences moved.”
Elliott Street will be widened two feet on each side for a total of four feet. The trees on the north side of the bridge to the town will be felled. A 40-foot wide drainage ditch will intercept flood waters that have plagued Elliott Street, diverting the water to the creek.
The construction will cover two miles; it will last about a year and the road will be open local traffic only, for those who live along the construction route.
