Commissioners interview candidates

Every seat was filled at the Board of County Commissioners meeting Tuesday.

The candidates for the Building Maintenance Superintendent position sat patiently through the first half of the agenda, waiting for the executive session in which they would be interviewed.

The commissioners approved the resolution to deposit funds to T-County Highway fund, $621.15, and $778.89.

The resolution to dispose of Emergency Management’s  laptop was approved. Johnny Janzen of Mayes County Emergency Management said the laptop is nearly 10 years old and would cost more to repair than to replace.

With little discussion, the commissioners appointed Mayes Emergency Services Trust Authority Board Members. For District 1, Sherman Weaver was appointed, District 2 appointed Brent Crittenden and Rob Foreman was appointed for District 3.

The commissioners announced the requisitioning and receiving officers for the sherriff’s office. Mike Reed and Gary Shrum were appointed as requisitioning officers and Clarene Crittenden and Valerie Taylor were appointed receiving officers.

Ed Crone spoke on behalf of Grand Gateway, explaining the next agenda item.

“We’ve asked for and received a $525,000 grant,” said Crone. “We are refinancing and our payments won’t change.

“Basically we need the commissioners’ approval to go $170,000 in debt; five of the seven counties have already approved this.” Grand Gateway Economic Development serves seven counties in northeast Oklahoma.

The commissioners entered an executive session to interview candidates. After an hour spent in executive session, the commissioners announced that two of the candidates had been selected to return for a second interview.
