Oklahomans who want to elect the nominee of a political party should make sure they are registered correctly no later than March 31, the last day for registered voters to change political affiliation,
Each political party can nominate one candidate per office for the November General Election. If two or more candidates from the same party file for one office, the party nominee is selected at either the Primary or Runoff Primary Election.
Only voters registered in a recognized political party may vote to select that party’s nominees. Independent (nonpartisan) voters and voters registered in political organizations cannot vote for party candidates in primary elections. Oklahoma has two recognized political parties in 2012: Democrat and Republican
All registered voters, regardless of political affiliation, may vote for any candidate in the November General Election and on state or local questions at any election.
Applications to register to vote, to change political affiliation, or to update addresses, are available at the Mayes County Election Board located on the first floor of the Mayes County Courthouse; most post offices, public libraries; tag agencies; and at www.elections.ok.gov. Call the Election Board Office at (918) 825-1826 for further information.
