The Salina Town Council and Public Works Authority meeting met Tuesday night at the city hall. All members were present.
The council heard the audit by Violet Kirkendall, CPA, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2010. As of that date, the town of Salina had total assets of $7,390,355. Total liabilities were $2,758,210.
Town librarian Lou Ella Martin was on the agenda to present a report on cleaning the parking lot at the library, but she was not present so no action was taken.
The Salina Area Chamber of Commerce was on the agenda to make a request of the town council but no action was taken when no one from the chamber was present to make a request.
Mayor Darryl Blaylock said he was impressed with the turnout the previous Saturday for the Easter egg hunt at the football field. Police Chief Vince Stoyanoski said in future egg hunts the town may want to consider satellite parking and a shuttle service. More than 1,000 reportedly took part in the hunt April 7. Blayock wants a spot reserved for handicapped parking at the next hunt.
The council approved making the fire department radios surplus because of a change in megahertz (MHz) bandwidth. The radios likely will be donated overseas. Stoyanoski said now that all the radios are at a lower power they barely work in some areas.
In old business. council member Morton Gann mentioned an abandoned house on Frontier Street. Stoyanoski said the house should be condemned to keep children from going inside and hurting themselves.
Town attorney Bill Gaddis said the owner must issue a 30-day warning before the structure could be condemned.
Vice Mayor Michael O’Rourke said there is a similar house in town that needs to be condemned.
The PWA approved the audit for fiscal year 2010.
The PWA approved payment of fees for a permit renewal to the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality for $100 for water facilities and $500 for waste water facilities.
The PWA approved payment of $3,478 to Open Range Archaeology for a survey related to the water system improvement project.
