Electrical problem repaired at rec center

Steve Riff was officially appointed vice chairman of the Pryor Creek Recreation Center Board at the meeting Tuesday.

Riff was appointed to fill in for chairman Steve Wyneken when needed.

In the director’s report, Director Mary Honea told the board about an emergency situation involving the electrical system in the pool area. She said the pool lights were not working. She said Collins Electric was able to find the problem in the control panels which had overheated because of lack of ventilation. She said the problems were fixed in a few days and now the system has two fans that kick on to cool the system as it reaches higher temperatures.

Because the work was declared emergency status work, the cost of the repairs, totalling nearly $13,000, came from the emergency capitol outlay fund leaving $6,500 in the account.

Honea told the board she will write a grant to apply for $2,000 from the motel/hotel tax fund to buy folding aluminum bleachers for the rec center. She said the bleachers can be used for activities put on by the rec center and allow for more seating for swimming competitions. She said the item will be part of next month’s agenda, along with the decision to put a door leading from the Boys & Girls Club to the nutrition center. She said she has spoken with the fire chief and building inspector about the door, which is a necessary exit in case of an emergency.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Pryor Creek Recreation Center Board is 5 p.m., May 22, at the Pryor Creek Recreation Center.
