Top D.A.R.E. graduate

Drug awareness program returns to schools

Officer Jeremy Cantrell of the Pryor Police Department completed D.A.R.E certification Feb. 1, in Oklahoma City.

Cantrell has been a police officer for 11 years and has been with the Pryor Police for six years. He will now be teaching the D.A.R.E program (drug abuse awareness education) to all Pryor public school fourth grade students beginning this spring.

Cantrell was honored as the “Overall Top Student” of his D.A.R.E academy. To get this award the academy took academic performance, class participation, professionalism and the potential of being invited to future academies as a trainer into consideration.

D.A.R.E  has been taught in schools by police officers since 1983. D.A.R.E’s new “Keepin’ it Real,” curriculum will be implemented this year. This curriculum teaches children to control their impulses and think about risk and consequences. It is a 10-week program that teaches responsibility and decision making.
