The Locust Grove Public Works Authority held a special meeting Friday to approve the engineering report by Garver Engineering for improvements to the waste water treatment plant.
Members attending were Mayor Terry Cooper, Vice Mayor Heath Holman and trustee Brenda Williams. Trustees Martha Pierce and Jo Hollford were absent.
Michael Graves of Garver made a PowerPoint presentation showing work necessary to bring the plant up to mandated standards. The plan approved was to make improvements to the existing water treatment plant at a cost of $3.45 million.
The improvements will replace existing equipment. This recommendation is the least expensive of the recommendations made by Garver Engineering.
The meeting was scheduled to approve the engineering report and recommendation. No final decision has been made on the waste water treatment plant. Locust Grove is being ordered by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality to make upgrades to the waste water treatment plant or build a new one.
In addition to the waste water treatment plant, Locust Grove is being ordered to make improvements to the water system. The town has decided to purchase water from the Oklahoma Ordinance Works Authority and close its water treatment facility, which has been in use since 1974.
Graves told the PWA that Garver Engineering looked at some of the structures in town and found the bridge on Broadway Street needs to be replaced.
