MESTA still in the black

Mayes Emergency Services Trust Authority approved a recommendation to accept Jeanie Norman, a new board member, as the representative for District 3.

The recommendation came from Melvin Pritchett, County Commissioner District 3 and was approved by the commissioners in a recent meeting.

In the director’s monthly report, Rick Langkamp

presented the following updates for board members.

“MESTA collections were $128,399.41 for the month of February,” he said. “We ended the month in the black and we are expecting the runs to increase with the warmer weather coming on.”

MidAmerica Industrial Park has provided MESTA a place to park the two additional ambulances and their disaster trailer until it is decided what is best to do with them.

“We parked them last month at an empty bay at the OSU building,” Langkamp said. The units were moved to another location when the space was needed for an upcoming class. Langkamp issued a special “Thank You to OSU and MAIP for allowing us to keep the units in a protected area.”

Langkamp also provided information to the board regarding mapping work on the off-road trails below the Pensacola Dam.

“The public does a lot of riding on the weekends at that location,” he said. “Russ Hogan from Hogan’s RV Park assisted us with developing pickup points for visitors that may need an ambulance while riding the trails.”

The areas are remote and patients are usually brought to a place accessible by ambulance.

“These locations have been designated by signs that MESTA purchased and Mr. Hogan installed,” Langkamp said. “These locations have been placed on the electronic map so all emergency workers and the 911 call center can easily locate them.”

Mayes County 911 purchased new mapping software that allows MESTA to do all map updating themselves, according to Langkamp.

“This makes the changes or additions done to the maps available immediately to the emergency services,” he said.
