Cherokee Nation awards $200,000

TAHLEQUAH — The Cherokee Nation Foundation has selected 32 scholarship recipients for the 2012-2013 academic school year. Students were selected after a thorough evaluation of academic achievement, financial need and cultural and community involvement.

“We want our students to have every opportunity to succeed, despite their financial background,” said Kimberlie Gilliland, executive director of the Cherokee Nation Foundation. “Each student has shown a propensity for giving back to their Cherokee communities, and these scholarships are an investment in their future and the future of the Cherokee Nation.”

This year, the foundation awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships. Recipients include 23 high school students and nine university students, representing all of the Cherokee Nation’s 14 counties and citizens at large.

“The work we do would not be possible without the generous support we receive from our Cherokee communities, family and

Christian Fogleman, Locust Grove High School; Cherokee Promise Scholarship



Lucian Littledave, Salina High School; Cherokee Promise Scholarship
