A Tahlequah man pleaded guilty to federal charges from a November 2011 incident.
Kyle Thomas Smith, 20, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, and attempting to manufacture methamphetamine.
Charges were a result of an investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Smith was indicted in January.
According to the indictment, Smith has previously been convicted of a crime and on Nov. 26, 2011, was in possession of a stolen firearm that had been shipped and transported in interstate commerce. Smith also allegedly attempted to manufacture meth.
Magistrate Judge Steven P. Shreder in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee accepted Smith’s plea and ordered a presentence report, with sentencing scheduled after it is completed.
The statutory range of punishment is not more than 20 years in prison and/or up to a $1 million fine.
