With only one regular meeting scheduled before the first day of school, Salina school board members took care of several items Monday night.
The board approved the renewal of the sublease on the new elementary. The contract renewal is yearly.
Superintendent Tony Thomas was authorized to be the school’s purchasing officer.
The board adopted revisions to three school policies including records investigation, teacher termination and procedures. Revisions were also accepted to the high school and middle school handbook.
A contract with J&J Educational Services was renewed. Thomas said the company helps the school district’s Impact Aid.
Activity fund accounts were transferred for the new school year.
All support personnel was rehired for the 2011-2012 school year.
Renee Humphrey was named activity fund custodian, treasurer and minutes clerk. Wanda Wade is the encumbrance clerk and assistant minutes clerk and Michelle Condit is the treasurer.
During the June meeting, the board filled a vacant school board seat. Johnny Morris joined the board replacing Daryl Bales. The board was reorganized. Lonnie Salyers will serve as president, Brandon Merritt is vice president and Greg Rice is clerk. Morris and Brandon Daniels are the other two members.
The district approved contracts with Oklahoma School Assurance Group and Oklahoma School Insurance group for insurance coverage including property liability, vehicle and worker’s compensation.
The board hired a therapist, custodian and coach during the June meeting. Cathy Mitchell was hired as the physical therapist and occupational therapist. Agnes Exline will work part-time as a custodian and Tony Rosebrough will serve as the girls basketball coach.
In other business:
• All coaching assignments were approved for 2011-2012.
• Temporary appropriations were approved for the upcoming school year.
• Several school policies were revised.
• Two contracts were approved with Aurora Learning Community Association and Oklahoma Counseling services.
• The board approved the teacher’s appraisal system. This is a hand held evaluation tool and software.
• A bid was accepted to sell a bus and two trucks for $799.
