Inhofe takes tour of Google facility

U.S. Sen. James Inhofe was in Pryor Wednesday and toured the Google Data Center.

Mike Wooten, director of operations for the data center, served as Inhofe’s guide for the hour-long tour.

Inhofe talked with employees and heard about expansion plans for the center.

He made a point of telling employees that he would enjoy seeing the new facility once it had been built.

He also met with various community leaders, including Jimmy Tramel, mayor of Pryor Creek, and Jerry Floyd, mayor of Chouteau.

Google owns some 900 acres in the MidAmerica Industrial Park. The land the data center is on also allows for available water resources to cool the machines. Representatives of Google explained to Inhofe that they use water instead of fossil fuels to cool all of the machines used at the center.

Representatives also told Inhofe that Google is involved in the community by offering grants and helping with hands-on training at area technology schools.

Google recently used a grant to set up sites to stream oceanography videos for the Boys & Girls Club in Pryor.
