The Salina school board was reorganized during the Monday, March 8 meeting. Shannon Whorton will serve as the president. Daryl Bales is vice president, Greg Rice will serve as clerk. Also on the board are Lonnie Salyers and Carrie Backward. Saylers was also named as the board’s Deputy Clerk.
The district is working to pass a $160,000 transportation bond issue on April 6. The bond would help purchase two new school buses. Any money left over from the bond would go to possibly purchase a school van. Their resignations were accepted. Roseanna Baker will retire after 20 years with Salina schools. Tom Proctor is also retiring. Proctor has been with Salina for over 30 years as an art and history teacher. Deanna Lennon also resigned.
During regular monthly business:
• Paul Harvey addressed the board about the possibility of adding a high school golf program. The board discussed the possibility, but no action was taken.
• High school counselor Debbie Morgan discussed the high school scholarship procedures with the board.
• An auditor was hired for the 2009-2010 school year. Bill Turner will do the district’s audit.
• A contract with Ruth Kelly studios was approved for the yearbook fund raiser.
• Salina will enter into a contract with D.A. Shuck Enterprises, Inc., to write a 21st Century Community Learning Center Competitive Grant.
