Adair Chamber discusses park renovation

Adair Chamber of Commerce is working to remodel Conner Park. There will be a community meeting April 19, 5:30 p.m., at the Adair community building to discuss park improvements.

“I don’t know which grants to start working on first,” said Judy Marshall. “We don’t want to get money that has to be spent in a certain amount of time.”

Marshall said she is gathering information necessary to apply for grants including the size of the park, the kind of sound barrier for Highway 69, location of the restrooms and water fountains and how many handicapped people are located in a two-mile radius of the park.

The treasurer’s report showed a balance of $10,695.29 on April 4. Members discussed the ice cream social, tentatively scheduled for the first Saturday after school begins. The proceeds from the social will go to the park improvement fund.

Louise Osborn reported 2,150 eggs were used in the Easter egg hunt on the football field Saturday. Members approved Osborn looking for discounted eggs to buy now for next year.

Presentatioin of students of the month was postponed due to a school activity. Four student of the month certificates will be presented in May.

Bette Schneider showed members examples of town signs provided by Oak Grove Studio. Schneider said the city will pay for two signs at the city limits. Two existing signs have been refurbished.

The chamber’s golf tournament is June 9 at Cherokee Golf Course below Pensacola Dam. Donna Vickers said she is still looking for hole sponsors. For $50, sponsors get a sign placed at one of the holes. Vickers said volunteers are needed to watch for a hole-in-one and the prize for closest to the hole.

Members discussed a membership drive and the possibility of associated memberships.

The chamber’s largest activity, Christmas In The Country, is in November. Members are discussing the plans already. For the last couple of years, the Express Clydesdales have pulled a stagecoach in the parade. Vickers has already called to reserve that date on the list.
