PRYOR —
County cleanup days are this weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday, the county will have refuse containers set up around the county for residents to dispose of unwanted items. The dumpsters will be provided by Pryor Waste & Recycling.
Mayes County District 1 will have containers at Pensacola, Strang, and the county barn in Adair. District 2 residents may go to Chouteau, Mazie, Sportsmen Acres or the Mayes County Fairgrounds. Two dumpsters will be placed at each location. In District 3, dumpsters will be set up in Langley, Disney, Spavinaw and at the county barn in Salina.
Locust Grove will not have a container because the city held its cleanup day April 9.
The cleanup is for discarding large items such as couches, mattresses, refrigerators and tanks. Items not acceptable include paint, tires, batteries or brush.
Mayes County com-
missioners did not set a county-wide burn ban upon the advice of Mayes County Emergency Management Director Johnny Janzen and Pryor Fire Chief Tim Thompson.
Janzen said the forecast calls for high fire danger two days this week. The remainder of the week is expected to be low to moderate fire danger. Janzen said the Sunday rain helped lessen the danger of wildfire in some areas.
Thompson said outdoor burning is not recommended.
Because of the high winds and dry climate, other counties have been battling blazes, including Ottawa, Washington and Creek. Sixty acres burned over the weekend in Ottawa County, and two homes were lost.
“If (the wildfires) get started, they can sure get away from you,” said Janzen.
The commissioners approved an annual agreement for generator maintenance with Commerical Power Solutions. The fee is $695 per year.
Funds deposited into county accounts include $28.03 to District 2 for a littering fine, $255 to District 3 from Clyde Allred for a brush hog, $611 to District 3 from Cates Recycling for a suburban and $2,556 to District 3 from Leon Landrum for a backhoe.
