NEO AICE hosts world-renowned artist

The American Indian Center for Excellence at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO), will be hosting a live painting by world-renowned Native artist, Yatika Starr Fields at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9 in the Kah-Ne-You-Ah Hall Gallery. The event is free and open to the public.

Fields, who has painted projects around the world, was born in Tulsa and is of the Cherokee, Creek, and Osage tribes, and is a member of the Bear Clan. He is a graduate of Stillwater High School and attended Oklahoma State University and studied at the prestigious Art Institute of Boston.

In a statement, Fields said, “I am motivated in my work fundamentally by the search for freedom in all forms. I seek to create a contemporary terrain in the juxtaposition of my living memories. Dissolving elements of space and time, I create a synthesis of symbolic forms and objects floating and bending on the canvas at all angles, negating the horizon and the rule of linear experience.
