Science on the move at mobile museum

CHOUTEAU — Local children took time out from the hot sun Saturday to step inside a mobile museum at the Thomas J. Harrison Pryor Public Library.

The Oklahoma Mobile Science Museum visited the library as part of an Oklahoma Museum Network program. The program, funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, brings the mobile museum to communities with little or no access to museums around the state.

The mobile museum features a moonwalk, trivia game and other science displays for families to enjoy. Network Educator John Wilcox even allowed visitors to ride on a Segway, a self-balancing, zero-emission personal transportation system. Most visitors have never seen the Segway in person, and were thrilled with a chance to give it whirl.

Wilcox said the mobile museum complements fifth grade science concepts, and often travels to schools around the state that have no access to museums. The museum often visits area libraries during the summer months when schools are not in session.
