Locust Grove and Fuel Up to Play 60 is excited to announce that Rhett Conkling, has been selected as a 2012-13 State Representative! He is taking a leadership role in making a positive impact on healthy eating and physical activity among his friends and classmates.
Conkling is in the Student Ambassador Program with Fuel Up to Play 60. One student per state was chosen to serve as a state representative. This means he and Shelli Lamons will get to attend the Student Ambassador Summit that will take place in Washington, D.C. July 11-14, funded by FUTP 60 and our local dairy council. They will be serving for Oklahoma. Lamons has organized this program at Locust Grove Upper Elementary for the past three years. She encouraged many students to apply, and we appreciate all of her hard work. She encourages the students to aim higher. She also received a grant that allowed her to buy physical education equipment and fresh fruits and vegetables for the school.
More than 70,000 schools across the United States are participating in Fuel Up to Play 60. Launched by National Dairy Council, local dairy councils and the National Football League, in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture, the program encourages youth to consume nutrient-rich foods and achieve at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
Conkling answered six essay questions in January and was notified on March 12 that he won.
