Man pleads guilty to horse theft

Pawhuska — PAWHUSKA — A Wynona man pleaded guilty last week on 2 felony counts of Larceny of Domestic Animals after stealing 2 horses he was hired to break and train.

Michael John Delaney II, 28, received a 10 year deferred sentence with supervised probation and was ordered to pay $2,500 in restitution and another $1,700 in court costs.

According to authorities, Delaney obtained possession of both horses on the pretense of breaking and training them, but failed to return the horses after the owners requested them.

Investigations revealed that 1 horse was traded. Special Ranger Bart Perrier, with the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, located that horse and returned it to the owner.

The cases were both investigated by Perrier and Osage County Sheriff Office Chief Investigator Charlie Cartwright.

TSCRA has 30 special rangers stationed strategically throughout Texas and Oklahoma who have in-depth knowledge of the cattle industry and are trained in all facets of law enforcement. All are commissioned as Special Rangers by the Texas Department of Public Safety and/or the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

TSCRA is a 136 year-old trade association and is the largest and oldest livestock organization based in Texas. TSCRA has more than 16,000 beef cattle operations ranching families and businesses as members.
