STILLWATER – Members of the Chouteau FFA Chapter won first place in the State FFA Dairy Cattle Evaluation Career Development Event during the Oklahoma FFA Career Development Events at Oklahoma State University on April 28.
Team members Tyler Chupp, Paige Chupp, Jacob Chupp and Rebekah Kennell received fourth-, fifth-, sixth- and seventh-high individual honors, respectively. This team will represent Oklahoma at the National FFA Dairy Cattle Evaluation Career Development Event at the National FFA Convention in October. Chouteau agricultural education instructor and FFA adviser Ray Pell coached the team.
Members complete a written exam related to the dairy industry, evaluate dairy cattle on physical characteristics using linear classification and pedigrees, and give oral reasons explaining their placing of a class.
The OSU College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the Department of Animal Science hosted the contest. CEV Multimedia will provide a cash award to the team for expenses related to participation in the national contest. Chesapeake Energy will provide a $1,000 scholarship to the first-place individual.
